"Mu’allimin adalah mini Indonesia yang siswanya berasal dari berbagai penjuru negeri."
Siang itu, 18 Desember 2021, matahari tengah memancarkan sinar cerah di atas kampus terpadu Mu’allimin di Sedayu. Namun awan hitam telah tampak di langit utara. Cerahnya siang di musim penghujan menjadi penanda kemungkinan hujan di sore hari. Sorenya, air dari langit itu pun turun jua membasahi bumi di sepanjang perjalanan pulang kami.
Ini adalah kali pertama Buya Syafii Maarif melihat secara langsung kegiatan belajar mengajar di gedung madrasah yang baru. Kampus terpadu yang telah lama diperjuangkan itu kini membuahkan hasil. Sejak Juli 2021, para siswa kelas satu mulai berdatangan secara bertahap sesuai protokol. Suasana pesantren mulai hidup.
Saat memasuki ruang kelas, Buya menyapa para siswa. Secara serempak mereka berdiri dan memberikan salam hormat pada Buya. “Dari mana saja Anda berasal? Ada yang dari Papua? Maluku? Sulawesi? Kalimantan? Sumatra? Nusa Tenggara?”, tanya Buya dengan penuh rasa bangga.
Mata Buya tampak berkaca-kaca. Air mukanya haru nan bahagia. Madrasah yang pernah mendidiknya ini memanggil nuraninya untuk turut berbuat semampunya, meski usia telah senja. Baginya, Mu’allimin adalah mini Indonesia yang siswanya berasal dari berbagai penjuru negeri.
Buya kemudian seperti larut dalam kenangan masa lalu saat menjadi guru. Di ruang kelas itu, Buya bertanya pada seorang siswa, “Anda tahu ini siapa?” tanya Buya sambil menunjuk halaman depan sebuah buku pelajaran Bahasa Indonesia. “Ini adalah Andrea Hirata, penulis novel yang sangat fenomenal. Anda tahu novelnya?” Siswa menjawab, “Laskar Pelangi”. Kata Buya kemudian, “Anda hebat!”.
Dari seorang guru di kelas pada masa lalu, kini Buya adalah Guru Bangsa. Betapa beruntungnya para siswa di kelas ini. Mereka belum tentu mengenal siapa Buya, tapi mereka telah merasakan diajar oleh Guru Bangsa meskipun hanya sebentar saja.
Di atas tanah sekitar 7 hektar ini, kini telah berdiri sebuah masjid, asrama, sekolahan, dan embung. Sementara kebutuhan fasilitas lain masih terus diupayakan. Masih ada lima gedung asrama yang harus dibangun, sebuah gedung sekolah, lapangan sepak bola, auditorium, dapur, ruang makan, dan rencana perluasan tanah. Jalan masih panjang. Semoga Allah memudahkan.
Bagi Buya dan Tim Pengembangan yang diketuainya, upaya terus dilakukan. Selagi napas masih lagi berembus, ikhtiar dan tawakal tak pernah putus.
