Kita sering kali melihat permainan yang dijadikan medium di film horror. Entah itu boneka, barang-barang magis, dan permainan yang melibatkan banyak orang dengan rule tertentu. Pijakan ide dari Talk to Me seperti itu, cukup klasik dan sederhana sebenernya untuk A24 yang terkenal dengan film horror thriller “nyleneh” nya.
Talk to Me menceritakan permainan sekelompok remaja untuk bisa terkoneksi dengan roh halus melalui mainan berbentuk tangan. Rumus horror pada umumnya menjadikan protagonist selalu penasaran dengan permainan magis dan akhirnya tidak bisa keluar dari hal itu.
Film ini memang selinear itu. Aku cukup kaget dengan A24 yang ga seberani biasanya dan ga segore biasanya. Film ini terbilang sangat sederhana untuk levelnya, tapi bukan berarti ga bagus, ya.
Penceritaannya sangat rapi kok. Ceritanya pun solid. Pengkarakterannya cukup clear, tapi twist-twist yang dihadirkan cukup hambar dan biasa. Film ini seperti film horror pada umumnya, tapi touching nya A24 aja. Gaya penceritaan A24 biasanya penuh dengan semiotika dan metafora yang selalu menimbulkan interpretasi yang liar di otak penonton, tapi kali ini tidak.
ACT I film ini sangat lama dan cukup bertele-tele. Waktu setengah jam dihabiskan hanya untuk berputar-putar dengan permainannya tanpa suguhan hal lain yang jauh lebih worth it.
Sebenernya di film debutnya Danny Philippou dan Micheal Philippou berani sama sesuatu yang mereka sendiri belum tentu paham. Asalkan penuh sensasi aja udah cukup buat aktualisasi diri.
Babak kedua sampai babak ketiga di film ini, kalian akan faham kok arahnya film ini akan ke mana. Ketika sang protagonist sudah mulai dihantui oleh ibunya, kita sudah hafal bahwa ibunya itu pasti roh jahat yang akan mengelabui dia untuk membunuh orang orang sekitar. Ya sudah seperti itu saja no more twist and no more differantation.
Akhirnya akan berujung kepada sang protagonist menjadi bagian dari roh jahat itu, done. Ntah kenapa aku sempat berfikiran kalau saja film ini dikerjakan sama PH kayak Warner Bros atau Sony, akan jauh lebih baik.
Film ini sebenernya sangat butuh visualisasi yang mengerikan dan sedikit jump scare. Tapi dari film ini juga aku jadi tau kalo A24 bikin film dengan story yang biasa aja kek gini rasanya kayak makanan yang look-nya fancy tapi rasanya hambar.
Tapi ada hal yang paling menarik perhatianku ketika nonton film ini. Aktingnya Sophie Wilde di sini sangat bagus. Salah satu alasan film ini menjadi mahal karena aktingnya yang berhasil membuat kita into sama filmnya.
Rasa kesel, gregetan, kasihan, sampek marah, dan akhirnya kita pengen protagonist kita mati aja deh. Feeling roller coaster kayak gini yang mahal. Shopie Wilde sangat ngegendong film ini. That’s why investasi ke cast memang menurutku sepenting itu ya. selebihnya film ini tetap bisa menjadi rekomendasi ke penonton yang lagi cari tontonan horror untuk ditonton waktu weekend.
